Prompt: love
Our family has had a dog for over 9 years now, since we moved into this house. Gunney is great and I like having her around (most of the time:) but I have never, ever had a real connection with her or any other pet. I like animals but I would not exactly call myself a dog person. Now Jill, our relationship with her takes the term "dog person" to a whole new level. I never knew that I could love a furry canine friend as much as I love her--as much as our entire family loves her. Jill is our youngest son's service dog, a diabetes alert dog, and she has already proven herself several times in the 8 months she's been part of our family. We not only love Jill for what she brings to our family, for the 2 times that she has very obviously saved B's life, and because of her dedication. We also love Jill because she is now starting to pick up on our older son's seizures and alerts to him too. We love her for the peace of mind that she brings to two parents who desperately needed another safety net. We love her because she stays awake all night--like her own little vigil. Even if everything is fine with the boys, she very rarely sleeps at night. She sits on B's bed, wide awake, just waiting to be needed. She sleeps all day but at night, she's on duty. We love her for her persistence. When I fail to wake up for an alert or respond, she alerts over and over until I get it through my dense skull. And we love her for her love. If B falls or gets hurt or cries at all, she will run to his side to check on him. She loves our boys as much as we love her and for that, we all love Jill even more.
I put this project away through the weekend because we were busy with a birthday boy. I did not take the following photo with the day 3 prompt in mind but as soon as I opened it on my computer, my first thought was "now that is love." I could not have imagined a better image to convey love in our house.
