Today marks the first day of a photography journey through the month of December. The project is sponsored by Paper Coterie who emails a prompt each morning. The idea is to exercise and expand our creative view of the holidays.
Today's prompt was "gratitude". With a life that provides me SO much to be grateful for, it was still very easy to pick just one thing today. Birthdays. I am grateful for every single birthday. Christmas does not really get going in our house until after Big A's birthday on December 2. Allen and I make a point of teaching our boys that Christmas is not their day. Christmas is not about the gifts they want. Christmas is about Jesus' birth, what He brought to this world, and celebrating God's grace for us as humans. On the flip side, July 10 and December 2 ARE their days. They are my two favorite days of the year. I love celebrating the 2 little creatures who light my world and make it a better place.
We have learned many times that life changes in an instant. Big A has a chronic condition that has proven to drastically shorten the lives of others with the same disease. While he's doing well now, that fear always lingers in the back of our minds. For parents who have already lost one child and also face some scary medical situations with their other 2 children, birthdays are more than cake and presents.
Birthdays are what we work for.
