baby g

Baby G is the youngest son of some friends of ours.  Their oldest is a couple months older than our youngest and we often get together for dinner and so the kids can play.  I would like to say that it happens more than it does but I am horrible with follow through and actually planning those events.   Baby G's mom asked me to capture Baby G alone, without big brother, to celebrate his first birthday.  It was fun!  Once our kids grow up it's easy to forget all of the hand holding, walking bent over at the waist, cuddling, and mischief that accompanies a one year old.  Baby G, rock on little man.  Rock on!

sometimes they cooperate

I can not count how many times I've said to my husband, "The light is perfect, I'm going to get my camera" then my boys WILL NOT cooperate.  They cover their faces.  They turn away.  They make obnoxious faces because they know what I am doing.  They are just general irritable and whiny about the camera.   I am all about capturing real life, true candid snapshots, but sometimes it's nice to have "that" photo of my own children.  It's what I do.  And there is not a photographer on earth who will not tell you that capturing your own children is 100 times harder than photographing someone else's kids.

We love, love, LOVE an ice cream joint near where our parents live called Spill the Beans.  It's not your run of the mill ice cream joint.  Picture a coffee/ice cream shop in an old mill--brick walls, lots of windows, and the absolute best ice cream you will ever eat.  Our boys sit still in Spill the Beans.  They enjoy every single second of our time there.   Ours kids do not get ice cream very often because our youngest is diabetic.  We also had my whole family in tow during this particular trip to get ice cream and my nephew, A, made the most the experience too.

The rest of the weekend was also blessed and full of photo ops.
