senior photos--Randi

This time of year is booming with seniors and I could not be happier.  These girls are so much fun to capture.  Randi will actually graduate in December, slightly ahead of schedule.  Way to go!

Hannah B--senior photos

A couple months ago I met up with the lovely Hannah for her senior photos.  I think we both had a lot of fun that evening.  I know I did.  I absolutely adore the personality and fun of my seniors and Hannah upped that level quite a bit.

10-on-10 July edition

Here we are again.  I can not believe it's already been a month but it is once again time for 10-on-10.  10-on-10 is a creative project consisting of 10 photographers who each post 10 images on the 10th of the month.  This is not about perfect photography but instead is about growing ourselves and capturing real life.

When I realized that this month's 10-on-10 post would go live on my youngest son's 6th birthday, I knew I had to make this a "day in the life of B" post.  B entered our lives as a huge surprise and has been nothing short of that for the last 6 years.  Our older son is an "old soul".  Not B.  He lives in the here and now--always grateful and always looking for fun and always adding his own little twist to life.  He is a leader, definitely not a follower, could not possibly care less about being different than the crowd.  I am often scared of what he might say in public and he has embarrassed me on more than one occasion.  I see a lot of myself in B (which scares me for his teenage years) but secretly I absolutely adore his adventurous side.  B keeps me grounded and makes me smile.  He has taught me compassion for lots of people in lots of different situations. He has taught me to savor the high moments and to respect the lows.  He has given me gratitude for life.

Our boys attend a year round school and went back to school today.  Last week my husband was off work for July 4th holidays and we were all home together.  Knowing that school would resume soon and as part of what has become "birthday week" instead of just a birthday, we had a totally fun day.  We broke all the rules, ditched the to-do lists, and soaked up every second as the four of us.

Our morning started REALLY early with 9 holes of golf.  Allen and Big A play a good bit but B and I have never gone along.  All I can say is that I have never laughed so hard....

Later on, a proper introduction to water balloons.  B was trying to break a balloon over his dad's head but instead he threw the balloon over Allen.  At that very second, Big A slammed this brother from behind.  B never had a clue!

This next image was caught by accident but is one of my favorite images of all time.  Jill is B's service dog.  She has been part of our family for a little over a year and has literally been a lifesaver.  Beyond her job, she and B share an unbelievable bond.  I do not think there could possible be more love and commitment shared between a boy and his dog.

Inspired by this article and a couple friends, I decided to serve ice cream for dinner.  Our boys both have medical special needs.  While just part of life, this means that my husband and I often miss out on some of the down right fun aspects of parenthood and our kids do not know what it's like to attend a sleepover or ride their bikes for hours or pig out on junk food.  So this night, rules did not apply.  The parents signed up for whatever the night brought so that kids could be kids.  Period.  B takes his Type 1 Diabetes in stride.  He has since his diagnosis at 17 months old.  One of the hardest aspects as his parents is having to say "no" to seconds at dinner, cake at parties, and desserts at holidays.  This night, no was not an option.

Have you ever handed a 5 yr old Type 1 diabetic a bowl of 3 scoops of ice cream and a cookie?  I had not either but now, I can say that the moment he opened his eyes and saw his dinner was, hands down, one of my favorite moments in life.  Pure, simple joy.

Gotta get every.single.drop!

I have absolutely fallen in love with Pinterest.  I mean, really, why did someone not think of this a LONG time ago?  Pinterest has simplified my life.  It is also a source of much wasted time but has turned into my go-to for recipes, seasonal crafts, and fun stuff for my kids.  The night of my 10-on-10 included a light saber bath.  Again--pure and simple fun.  And a huge hit with the kiddos.

10-on-10 June 2012 edition

This months 10-on-10 comes out of photos that would have been taken anyway.  We have been BUSY traveling so I knew I wanted to pull a few shots from one of those trips.  I originally thought I would use a  trip to Cincinnati for doctors' appointments but then curbed that in exchange for a snapshot view of our family trip to Boston for my husband's brother's graduation from Harvard Business School.

A's wheelchair had to go down to the airplane backwards so B walked backwards

wrye family

This family was fun.  They came to me through a charity silent auction and jumped right into their photography experience.
